A smoothie is a great way to incorporate a variety of fruit and veg into one meal. When you start your day with this, you have a much better chance of continuing to make the right choices when it comes to nutrition as the day goes along. Or alternatively, if you feel you have been overdoing it a little, a green smoothie is perfect for pressing the reset button.
Adding protein powder is optional, but if you do, this smoothie will keep you satisfied for even longer as protein reduces the level of the hunger hormone ghrelin and boosts the level of peptide YY, a hormone which makes you feel full. A protein rich meal is far more filling and you won’t feel hungry again too quickly.
Makes 1 Smoothie
- 1 cup kale, stems removed
- 1 green apple, quartered and core removed
- 2 celery stalks
- 1/2 banana
- 1 kiwi
- Large handful of flat leaf parsley
- Fresh ginger, about the size of your finger tip
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- Juice of 1/2 lime
- 1 tbsp cashews
- 1 cup water
- 3 ice cubes
- Optional: Protein powder
- Place all the ingredients into a high speed blender and blend until smooth.
- Add ice cubes and blend again.
- Enjoy immediately.
